How to Use This Report

The following report, concerning the genealogy of the Fort family of North Carolina and Middle Tennessee, consists of outlines only.  I have not personally researched this family with respect to the primary records.  Instead, I have relied upon secondary sources.  Accordingly, the report should be used as a starting point only, to use in forming genealogical hypotheses.  To prove these hypotheses, the reader of this report must provide his/her own supporting rationale obtained from family documents such as Bible records and/or memoranda; and from official documents such as wills, deeds, court minutes, etc.  The ancestor numbering system utilized in the report is that recommended by the National Genealogical Society (NGS).

2. Elias2 Fort (Elias1) was born 14 July 1730 in Edgecombe County NC, and died 14 January 1819 in Robertson County TN. He married Sarah Sugg 1758 in Edgecombe County NC, daughter of Aquilla Sugg and Elizabeth Maund. She was born 15 May 1738 in Norfolk County VA, and died 19 March 1802 in Robertson County TN.

11 vi. Elizabeth Fort, born 1770 in Edgecombe County NC; died 1825 in Robertson County TN. She married Epaphroditus (Eppa) Lawson; born 22 February 1746/47 in Richmond VA; died Abt. 1814 in Robertson County TN.

12 vii. Obediance Bodie Fort, born 21 January 1771 in Edgecombe County NC. She married David Smith.

13 viii. Elias Fort, born 07 September 1774 in Edgecombe County NC; died 1827 in Robertson County TN. He married Catherine Prince 1797; born 1774; died 1838.

+ 14 ix. Sugg Fort, born 24 June 1776 in Edgecombe County NC; died 22 March 1829 in Robertson County TN.

7. Josiah3 Fort (Elias2, Elias1) was born 08 September 1762 in Edgecombe County NC, and died 1848 in Robertson County TN. He married (1) Piety Horn 17 January 1788 in Edgecombe County NC, daughter of Henry Horn and Sarah Battle. She was born 10 December 1767 in Edgecombe County NC, and died 27 November 1815 in Robertson County TN. He married (2) Selah Horn 02 December 1819 in Robertson County TN, daughter of Henry Horn and Sarah Battle. She was born 21 February 1779 in Edgecombe County NC, and died 01 March 1836 in Robertson County TN.

He married Elizabeth Diggs 10 December 1801 in Robertson County TN, daughter of Robert Diggs and Elizabeth Lawson. She was born 12 November 1777, and died 01 February 1805 in Robertson County TN.

Children of Sugg Fort and Elizabeth Diggs are:

Metcalfe 13 September 1831 in Robertson County TN. She was born 28 January 1812 in Davidson County TN, and died 21 December 1836 in Robertson County TN. He married (2) Elizabeth Diggs Dancy 07 July 1840 in Florence AL. She was born 30 March 1818, and died 22 October 1900.

Children of Epaphroditus Fort and Virginia Metcalfe are:
